The Carlyle RCMP detachment attended our Council Meeting on November 23, 2016 to discuss the recent crime in Redvers. It should be noted that since the first incident in September, they have doubled their presence in Redvers. We are aware of the ticketing complaints, and when questioned about this the officers simply said that they cannot ignore violations that happen in front of them even when they are present for another reason. Regarding the recent crime, they are building their case. They are collecting evidence, following up leads, and taking tips to form a bigger picture of the situation and to not leave any detail unnoticed.
The RCMP are asking for help from the community. They are not asking us to form an organized group, but become increasingly aware as a whole. They ask us to be vigilant and report any signs of mischief directly to the RCMP or to Crime Stoppers. The power of being aware, looking for signs of mischievous behavior and reporting them, can be the missing piece to the puzzle. If you hear a vehicle driving around at night, check the make/model or get a plate number, or if you see someone walking around at an odd hour, for example, call it in. Small pieces make a big picture, and may help the RCMP connect the dots and form a solid case against their suspect. Withholding any information, no matter how small or unimportant it may seem, can be a big hindrance to their progress. Photos, tips, and statements to the RCMP are important and very much needed.
They also ask any residences and businesses with cameras to check them regularly, especially after a crime occurs, to see if there is any footage that can be given to the RCMP as evidence.
