Property tax is determined by two things – the assessed value placed on the land and buildings (assessed by the Saskatchewan Assessment Management Association) and the mill rate determined by Town Council. Assessments are executed every four years and are subject to change by assessment appeal procedure.
Buildings or improvement assessments are determined by the assessor after a physical inspection. The assessor is guided by an assessment manual that sets out a classification of the various types of structures and quality of construction.
A full assessment of the province was completed for 2024, which took effect in 2025. Saskatchewan Assessment Management Association (SAMA) completes a full assessment every four years. SAMA assessments have changed to reflect fair market value.
